Resolution to Approve First Amendment to Legal Services Contract with Stevenson Keppelman Associates ($50,000.00)
Memorandum
Robert Stevenson of the firm of Stevenson Keppelman has been performing legal work for the City in connection with retirement benefit regulatory issues. Mr. Stevenson was chosen for this work because of his expertise in the field. The firm has a current contract for $25,000.00 and, as this work is expected to exceed that amount, we are coming to Council for approval of an amendment to that contract in the amount of $50,000.00 for a total amount of $75,000.00.
Approval of the proposed resolution is recommended.

Whereas, Section 5.2(c) of the Ann Arbor City Charter authorizes City Council, on the recommendation of the City Attorney, to retain special legal counsel to assist the City Attorney;
Whereas, Representation by the firm of Stevenson Keppelman is in the best interests of the City at this time based on the firm's expertise in the area of retirement benefit regulatory issues; and
Whereas, The firm of Stevenson Keppelman has received Human Rights and Living Wage approvals as of December 1, 2008;
RESOLVED, That the City Council approve the First Amendment to the contract for legal services with the law firm of Stevenson Keppelman for an amount not to exceed Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) for a total contract amount of $75,000.00, irrespective of fiscal year; and
RESOLVED, That the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and directed to execute the contract amendment with Stevenson Keppelman after approval as to form and substance by the City Attorney.
