Title
Resolution No. 1 - Geddes Avenue Stormwater and Curb and Gutter
Memorandum
Approval of the attached resolution directs staff to prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the addition of a new stormwater system and curb & gutter along Geddes Avenue as a special assessment project. This work will be part of the Geddes Avenue Improvements Project (Huntington to Hickory Way) which is scheduled to begin construction in late 2015.
As called for in Chapter 13 of City Code, the cost for the addition of new storm sewer and curb & gutter where none currently exist is borne by the parcels that benefit from the improvements. The attached resolution directs staff to provide and share cost estimates for this work once it is designed.
Curb & Gutter
Planning, public engagement, and design efforts for Geddes Avenue Improvement Project have been ongoing since early 2014. As a result of these efforts, the Project Team has determined that curb and gutter will be necessary along the approximate eastern half of the project due to steep grades and the desire to narrow the extent of impacts. With the addition of curb, the extent of the grading associated with the roadway and sidewalk can be reduced, thus minimizing impacts to the adjacent slopes and trees/vegetation. The curb also provides a means to convey stormwater and structurally protect the pavement edge.
The attached map shows the general location of the proposed new curb and gutter.
Stormwater
This section of Geddes does not have existing storm sewers. One goal of the Geddes Improvements Project is to provide a stormwater management system in compliance with the City's Green Streets Policy. Since the proposed Geddes stormwater system will consist of non-traditional infrastructure, such as swales and underground infiltration, staff will provide a cost estimate for a less expensive, historically traditional, storm system (i.e., sewer pipes and inlets) to be utilized in proposing the special ...
