Title
Resolution to Approve Agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation for Construction Engineering Services for Huron Street Pedestrian Island Installation ($6,400.00)
Memorandum
Attached for your review and approval, please find a resolution to approve an agreement between the City of Ann Arbor and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to provide construction engineering services. The agreement is required so that City crews can inspect construction and be reimbursed using federal aid safety funds.
The project consists of installing one (1) new pedestrian crossing island on Huron Street (I94BL) at Thayer and Ingalls (between North Quad and Rackham). Due to the familiarity with the project and the proximity to other construction work MDOT has requested our assistance.
The construction plans were prepared by staff and submitted to MDOT for their November 2, 2012 bid letting. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring of 2013 and continue until May 2013. The MDOT will award the construction contract and the City of Ann Arbor will act as the Project Manager.
One requirement for this type of project is that the City enters into an agreement with the State stipulating rights and responsibilities of the parties. It is the same type of agreement that we have used on other federally funded projects. The cost of the construction engineering, inspection and testing work will be funded by the approved Project Management Major Street Fund operations and maintenance budget to be reimbursed by MDOT from the Budget as shown below:
$ 6,400.00 Construction Engineering (MDOT)
