Memorandum
The attached resolution is for a contract for Legal Services with Stevenson Keppleman Associates in the amount of $70,000.00 to provide legal services in pension matters. Appropriation of $70,000.00 from the General Fund Balance is required to cover the cost of this contract.
Approval of the proposed resolution is recommended.

Body
Whereas, Section 5.2(c) of the Ann Arbor City Charter authorizes City Council, on the recommendation of the City Attorney, to retain special legal counsel to assist the City Attorney;
Whereas, The firm of Stevenson Keppleman has provided legal services to the City relative to pension matters in the past and representation by the firm on pension matters is in the best interests of the City at this time based on the firm’s general experience in providing legal services in pension matters and its prior services to the City; and has previous experience in representing the City;
Whereas, The firm of Stevenson Keppleman received Human Rights approval on December 15, 2009, and received Living Wage approve on April 29, 2010; and
Whereas, Funds for this contract amendment need to be appropriated from the General Fund Balance to the Nondepartmental Fund revenues and expenditures budgets to be increased for that amount, to be available for use without regard to fiscal year;
RESOLVED, That the City Council approve the contract for legal services with the law firm of Stevenson Keppleman Associates for an amount not to exceed $70,000.00, irrespective of fiscal year.
