Title
Resolution to Approve the Purchase of One 6 Yard Rear Loading Refuse Truck from Bell Equipment Company - ITB # 4316 ($93,800.00)
Memorandum
The attached resolution authorizes the purchase of a small rear loading refuse truck with a 6 yard capacity. The truck will be used by the Public Services Area, Field Operations Unit for refuse collection in the City parks.

Bell Equipment Company, Lake Orion, MI, was the lowest responsible bidder to ITB # 4316, dated January 7, 2014 with the bid results listed below.

Vendor Purchase Price
Bell Equipment Company $93,800.00
Interstate Truck Source, Inc $97,800.00

This truck will replace a 2002 rear loading truck with over 14,500 hours of operation. In the last three years, 57% of all repair man hours have been spent on breakdowns while only 14% have been for preventive maintenance. In this same period of time the cost of breakdown repairs has exceeded $78,000.00 compared to the 13 year life-time total of $141,480.00

This purchase follows the goals and guidelines of the City’s Green Fleet Policy to reduce the amount of fuel used and to pay a premium for “greener” vehicles if necessary.

The Fleet and Facility Unit has budgeted adequate funds for this purchase.

Bell Equipment Company received Human Rights approval on January 10, 2014.
