Memorandum
The attached resolution approves the City of Ann Arbor's acceptance of the United States Department of Homeland Security's Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Assistance to Fire?ghters Grant (AFG) funding opportunity. The grant application has already been approved; this resolution is for City Council to approve and appropriate the award.

This grant will fund washer extractors and dryers for firefighting turnout gear to be purchased and installed at Fire Station 1 (downtown) and Fire Station 6 (Briarwood). The washer extractors will require plumbing and electrical work. The dryers utilize a standard electrical outlet. In total, two extractors and two dryers will be purchased.

The fire department currently has only one washer extractor and dryer, located at Fire Station 3 (Veterans Park). Only having a single washer extractor and dryer creates logistical issues of transporting gear across the City for cleaning and causes a bottleneck of gear needing to be washed following fire incidents. Washing of turnout gear following fire incidents is key for cancer reduction efforts.

There are no additional future costs associated with this grant.

Budget/Fiscal Impact: The FY 2021 AFG Grant funding opportunity has a 10% cost match (cash or in-kind) requirement. The City's matching grant funds requirement is $4,949.35. The City's portion will be appropriated from the FY23 fire department budget. Barring equipment delays, this project will be completed in FY23.
