Resolution to Approve the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 693 Collective Bargaining Agreement Effective July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010
Memorandum
Human Resources Services recommends approval of the attached Resolution for the new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Ann Arbor and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 693.  
 
Highlights of the negotiated contract include:
  1. One year contract:  July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.  
  2. Effective January 3, 2010, a 3.0% wage decrease.
  3. Effective February 1, 2010, an increase in Pension Contribution from 5.0% to 6.0%.
  4. Effective upon Council Approval, a payment of $250.00 into each member's HRA account for the FY 10.
  5. Guarantee of no layoffs through June 30, 2010.

Whereas, The current collective bargaining agreement between the City of Ann Arbor and the Fire Fighters Local 693 expired June 30, 2009;
 
Whereas, The parties have reached a settlement on a new agreement, which provides a 3.0% wage decrease;
 
Whereas, The agreement includes an increase in Pension Contribution from 5.0% to 6.0%;
 
Whereas, The agreement also includes a guarantee of no layoffs through June 30, 2010; and
 
Whereas, The City Administrator recommends approval of the negotiated agreement.
 
RESOLVED, That the City Council approve the one-year settlement agreement; and
 
RESOLVED, That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to sign the bargaining agreement on behalf of the City, after approval as to substance by the City Administrator and approval as to form by the City Attorney.
