Resolution Terminating the Local State of Emergency in Response to COVID-19

Whereas, On August 24, 2020 the City Council consented to the Mayor’s declaration of a local state of emergency in response to the COIVD-19 pandemic (R-20-321);
Whereas, Since that time, the management of the COVID-19 pandemic has entered an ongoing phase and State and County states of emergency and health orders related to COVID-19 have expired or been rescinded;
Whereas, A declared state of emergency is no longer necessary for the City to take appropriate measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19;
Whereas, Preventive measures, such as vaccination, masking, social distancing, and isolation after contact have become established methods for controlling transmission of COVID-19;
Whereas, City Council recognizes that the threat to human health posed by COVID-19 continues to exist regardless of a declared state of emergency; and
Whereas, City Council therefore deems it prudent to continue requiring vaccination for persons appointed to boards and commissions and allowing electronic meetings for certain City boards and commissions;
RESOLVED, That City Council hereby terminates the local state of emergency effective immediately in accordance with City Code, Chapter 15, Section 1:327(3); and
RESOLVED, That the provisions of City Council Resolution R-21-418 (Resolution to Continue Electronic Meetings for Certain City Boards and Commissions After December 31, 2021) shall continue in effect, regardless of the termination of the local state of emergency.
