Resolution to Appropriate Funds for Installation of Art at the E. Stadium Bridges ($40,000.00) (8 Votes Required)
Memorandum
On June 3, 2013, the Public Art Ordinance was revised to eliminate the requirement to use 1% of capital improvement project costs (up to $250,000.00 per project) for public art and to adopt a process where each capital project will be evaluated individually to determine whether it is appropriate for inclusion of public art.
On March 3, 2014, Council approved Resolution #R-14-068, which returned uncommitted Public Art Funds to their originating sources, but reserved $400,000.00 in the art fund for the completion of the E. Stadium Bridges art project.
Since that time, the art work for the E. Stadium Bridges has been designed in more detail. The detailed design has provided the definition needed to design foundations and lighting layouts.
The design of the foundations is now complete and the estimated cost for the foundations as designed are approximately $15,000.00 more than originally planned.
Additionally, the original bridge design did not provide for lighting of art elements. An additional $25,000.00 is required to bring power to locations on the bridge to light the art.
The additional $40,000.00 requested for completion of the project would be within the normal construction contingency set up within capital projects.
