Resolution to Approve Street Closings for the "Dancing In The Streets" Special Event - September 6, 2009
Memorandum
Attached for your review and approval is a request from the Ann Arbor Council for Traditional Music and Dance to close South Main Street between Huron Street and Liberty Street, and Washington Street between South Ashley Street and the alley on East Washington between toward South Fourth Avenue from Noon to 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, September 6, 2009 for the "Dancing in the Streets" Special Event. The event itself is scheduled to run from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with additional time used for event setup and cleanup.
The street area will also be closed during the event for other activities including musical entertainment, however, the Washington Street parking structure and alley between South Main Street and South Fourth Avenue will be open and accessible during the event.
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
The sponsor will mail written notice to all affected businesses, religious institutions and area residents not less than 14 days prior to the event.
This event has been coordinated with all relevant City service areas for the purposes of control and for the protection of the health and safety of the participants and general public.

Whereas, The street closures will be signed, barricaded and properly supervised by the sponsor;
Whereas, The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses; and

RESOLVED, That City Council approve the closing of South Main Street between Huron Street and Liberty Street, and Washington Street between South Ashley Street and South Fourth Avenue from Noon to 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, September 6, 2009 for the "Dancing in the Streets" Special Event.
