Memorandum
Approval of this ordinance amendment adds, "guest houses for relatives of hospital patients" to the permitted principal use section of the R4A zoning district. This proposed amendment would allow group housing similar to the "Ronald McDonald House" to locate in the R4A district, as long as a minimum of 400 square feet of net lot area is provided per occupant.
The City Planning Commission, at its meeting of July 20, 2010, recommended approval of this amendment.

ADD GUEST HOUSES AS A PERMITTED PRINCIPAL USE
IN R4A ZONING DISTRICT
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 5:10.6(2)(c) OF CHAPTER 55 (ZONING) OF TITLE V OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF ANN ARBOR
The City of Ann Arbor ordains:
Section 1. That Section 5:10.6(2)(c) of Chapter 55 of Title V of the Code of the City of Ann Arbor shall be amended as follows:
Section 5:10.6. R4A Multiple-Family Dwelling District.
(2) Permitted principal uses
(c) Convalescent homes and nursing homes, guest houses for relatives of hospital patients, and homes of the elderly, subject to providing 400 square feet of lot area per occupant.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force on and after ten days from legal publication.
