Resolution to Amend the A2Zero Plan, Strategy 6, to Implement Sensors to Monitor and Strategies to Manage Heat, Air Quality, Waterways, and Flooding

Whereas, Ann Arbor City Council adopted A2Zero on June 1, 2020, the City of Ann Arbor’s plan for achieving a just transition to community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030;
Whereas, The A2Zero Plan is a living document which includes multiple supporting documents;
Whereas, The mission of A2Zero is the same as the City of Ann Arbor's mission: deliver exceptional services that sustain and enhance a vibrant, safe, and diverse community; and
Whereas, There is a greater threat of flooding due to heaver rainfalls predicted as a result of climate change;
RESOLVED, Ann Arbor City Council supports the City in their efforts to manage flooding, heat waves, and other climate-related impacts by updating the 2022 Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan and ensuring that current and future man-made, natural, and climate-related vulnerabilities and risks are evaluated and mitigation strategies identified;
RESOLVED, Ann Arbor City Council requests that A2ZERO Strategy 6, Action 6, be revised to read “Implement Sensors to Monitor and Strategies to Manage Heat, Air Quality, Waterways, and Flooding”;
RESOLVED, Ann Arbor City Council encourages the Administrator to continue working with staff to provide educational and engagement opportunities so that residents and businesses can proactively take steps to learn about and manage their climate risks, including efforts that support onsite stormwater management; and
RESOLVED, Ann Arbor City Council encourages the Administrator to generate a list of shovel ready projects that would increase local resilience to climate-related hazards so that, if relevant, those projects could be considered for future federal and/or state funding.
