Title
Resolution to Permanently Relocate Precinct 1-8 from Ann Arbor Open at Mack, 920 Miller Avenue to Skyline High School, 2552 N. Maple Road for all Future City Elections
Memorandum
The City Clerk's Office is proposing to permanently relocate the polling location for Ward 1, Precinct 8 (1-8), due to the fact that the current polling location, Ann Arbor Open at Mack, is located outside the boundary of the precinct and the ward. The proposed new location, Skyline High School, is centrally located within Precinct 1-8.

Since the November 2009 election, the City Clerk has requested and received permission from the Ann Arbor School District to pursue a permanent relocation of precinct 1-8 located at Ann Arbor Open at Mack, to the second floor common area of Skyline High School, located at 2552 N. Maple Road. Skyline High School is a more geographically appropriate location for Ward 1, Precinct 8 voters, and is accessible to voters with disabilities. In addition, the current location of Ann Arbor Open at Mack has proven confusing to voters in Ward 5, Precinct 3, who vote at the Second Baptist Church located directly behind Ann Arbor Open. School officials agree that the use of the larger high school building is preferable to the elementary school building.

Pursuant to Michigan Election Law, City Council approval is required to designate and prescribe the place or places of holding an election in the city.

Signage will be posted at Ann Arbor Open at Mack for all 2010 elections to direct any voters who may still arrive at the former location. In addition, new permanent voter identification cards will be issued to all affected voters and the City's website will be used to communicate the change.

The City Clerk's Office is requesting that City Council authorize the City Administrator and the City Clerk to take any necessary action to implement this resolution.
