Resolution to Approve Street Closing for the 2014 Washtenaw Indie Awards, Saturday, June 28, 2014
Memorandum
Attached for your consideration is a resolution to approve the closing of E. Washington Street between Main and the alley from 6:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M.
This inaugural event will honor those small independently owned businesses that are the fabric of our community. The winners will be featured in a full page spread in the July issue of The Ann celebrating “Independents Month.” The runners up will also be recognized in the magazine and all nominees will be celebrated at the tent party at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival.
Music will be provided by a band or DJ and will be played beginning at 6:00 P.M. and ending by 10:00 P.M.
The sponsors, Think Local First and the Arbor Brewing Company, will submit an application for approval from the State of Michigan Liquor Control Commission for temporary sales, service and consumption of alcoholic beverages in the defined areas pursuant to the M.L.C.C. regulations.
The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses.
Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery, social media and flyers to be distributed by the applicant.

Whereas, The City has received a request from the Think Local First and the Arbor Brewing Company to close E. Washington Street between Main Street and the alley from 6:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 to host the 2014 Washtenaw Indie Awards;
Whereas, The street closure will be signed, barricaded and properly supervised by the sponsor;
Whereas, The sponsor requires the approval of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for a special outdoor liquor license;
Whereas, The sponsor agrees to obtain all necessary permits, to provide evidence of proper liability insurance as required, to comply with all City regulations governing the use of the streets and will reimburse the City for all event expenses; and
Whereas, Notification of the street closings will be provided through the City’s website, GovDelivery, social media and flyers to be distributed by the applicant;
RESOLVED, That Council approve the closing of E. Washington Street between Main Street and the alley from 6:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 28, 2014; and
RESOLVED, That a special liquor license for the event be approved, contingent upon approval from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
