How Established: Section 1:191, Chapter 8, Title I of the Ann Arbor City Code - Code amended to change the name on March 28, 1988. The City Code was again amended on October 2, 1989 to change the name and committee composition in compliance with State law. Purpose: Passes upon applications for construction, alteration, repair of historic structures within the historic district; handles all activities relating to historical concerns and preservation activities. Special Qualifications for Appointment: Interest in Ann Arbor's history and knowledge of historic and civic matters. Length of Terms: 3 years (unless filling an unexpired term). Meeting Times and Frequency: This is a permanent commission that meets 2nd Thursday each month at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Membership / Committee Composition: 7 members maximum.
