How Established: Section 1:175-185, Chapter 8, Title I of the Ann Arbor City Code. Purpose: The Commission is responsible for adopting and maintaining the City Master Plan, and advising the City Council on matters relating to the future public and private development of the City. The Commission and Department must annually prepare a Capital Improvements Plan and submit it to City Council for consideration. Council may not amend zoning regulations until it has received a report and recommendation from the Planning Commission. The Commission shall advise City Council on matters relating to the physical and environmental development of the City. Its recommendations shall consider the impact which such development shall have on the physical, social, economic and environmental condition of the City. The Commission shall furnish City Council reports and recommendations on ordinances, ordinance amendments, annexations, zonings, resolutions or any other matters requested by City Council or which are deemed important by the Commission for the orderly development of the City. The Commission shall make an annual written report to City Council concerning the Commission's operations and the status of planning activities, including recommendations regarding actions by City Council related to planning and development. Special Qualifications for Appointment: 1 must be a Councilmember (1 year term), 8 should represent different professions and occupations having an interest in the growth and development of the City. Length of Terms: 1 for 1 year, 8 for 3 years - Terms begin on July 1st nearest day of appointment. Meeting Times and Frequency: This is a permanent Commission. Meeting schedule is as follows: Regular meetings - 1st and 3rd Tuesdays and Working meetings - 2nd Tuesday, of every month. All meetings begin at 7 p.m. in the Guy C. Larcom Jr. Municipal Bldg., 301 E. Huron St.,2nd Floor Council Chamber. Membership / Committee Composition: 9 members - set by ordinance.
