UPDATE: The City Board of Canvassers were eliminated with the passage of Public Act 51 of 2013 How Established: MSAt.1030(1) - Section 168.30a - Michigan Election Law and Ann Arbor City Charter - Section 13.12. Purpose:To audit the number of votes cast in each City election as well as the procedures followed by the election workers. Special Qualifications for Appointment: Members must be representatives of the 2 major political parties. Length of Terms: 4 years - Upon expiration of a member's term, the member may not continue until reappointed. However, there is no limit to the number of consecutive terms a member can serve. Meeting Times / Frequency: This is a permanent Board that meets the Thursday after each City election at 10:00 a.m. Membership / Committee Composition: 4 members appointed by Council per the recommendation of the political parties.
